Match Your Symptom to the Service
This is a repair call. First check that the thermostat is set to cool below room temperature, the breaker has not tripped, and the filter is not clogged. If all three check out, the cause is inside the system.
Humidity that will not come down usually means the system is oversized, undercharged, or short cycling. Sometimes a tune-up resolves it. When the equipment was sized by rule of thumb, replacement is the real fix.
Book maintenance, ideally in spring before the cooling season loads the system. Most manufacturers, American Standard included, expect documented annual professional service for warranty coverage to stay intact.
A well-maintained system under ten years old is usually worth repairing. Once a system passes the twelve to fifteen year mark and needs a second or third repair, we walk you through replacement honestly rather than selling you another patch.
R-22, often called Freon, has been phased out and is no longer manufactured. Small repairs can still make sense, but a leak or compressor failure on an R-22 system is usually the point to move to modern equipment.
